Fashion Biz

This page aims to address issues around Fashion business focusing on Leaders who strive to create and innovate, to think different and solve new problems, examples of sustainable enterprise, and the real-life demands of today’s marketplace. Throughout the world, and across the United States, new business creation by entrepreneurial, independent business owners is a major driver of economic growth. And prominent designers are comfortable managing the creative process and asserting their “intrapreneurial” skills inside an existing corporate setting.

The Fashion business environment is global, viral, savvy on the creative side, sophisticated in business, and constantly evolving, creating a new generation of fashion industry thought leaders who will help revitalize mature operations, bring new thinking, new products, and original ideas to the table and increase market share across the spectrum of fashion-related markets and industries.

Isabel Marant Fall 2012: Westward Expansion and E-Commerce on the Horizon

Isabel Marant raked in $82.9 million last year and has plans to open six new stand alone boutiques next year in Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, Paris, London and Los Angeles, according to a report in WWD. It’s not surprising, considering the queen of Parisian cool has quite the knack for creating each season’s “it” item (see: this year’s Willow wedge sneaker and its countless knockoffs).

Devotees of the brand, which include the A-list roster of models who walked in the show (including Carmen Kass, Anja Rubik, Joan Smalls, Arizona Muse, and the list goes on), won’t be disappointed with fall’s Western-inspired offerings. Because somehow, Marant makes cowgirl floral embroidered silk button downs look insanely cool. Part of that cool-factor has to do with those models who wear her clothes both on the runway and off. (We overheard a story about one photographer who said he couldn’t tell when Marant’s models were in first looks because they all come to the show wearing Marant to begin with).

We’re calling the cropped embroidered jeans as well as the studded cowboy boots as next season’s ubiquitous must-haves. Long sleeved minis in frilly lace, fringed suede and cut-out leather should do well, too. According to WWD, e-commerce is a priority for the brand. It’s about time…

Isabel Marant started designing accessories in 1989 and launched her full ready-to-wear collection five years later. The label is an indie favorite among fashion mavens and magazines, and is known for minimalist, bohemian clothing: short, casual dresses, loose-fitting knits, slouchy trousers, tailored jackets, and lush scarves. Marant created a lower-priced diffusion line, Etoile (French for “star”) in 1999 and introduced a children’s range in 2004. She has three stand-alone boutiques in Paris, nine in Asia, one in New York, and wholesale locations throughout Europe and the U.S.
