Returning to Hong Kong for its 5th cycle, the EcoChic Design Awards is a sustainable fashion design competition that inspires emerging fashion designers and students to create mainstream clothing with minimal textile waste.
Eco Chic Design Awards is established by Redress founder Christina Dean who promotes environmental sustainability within the fashion industry and the positive affect this can have on society and the environment.
In this years’ competition, emerging designers from 10 countries across Asia and Europe are challenged with designing a contemporary and wearable womenswear collection that reflects ‘Modern China Chic’ and celebrates China’s dynamic cultural and style influences on today’s global fashion stage.
Collections are aimed at dynamic women aged 25-40 who appreciate China’s modern fashion sensibilities and quality tailoring and craftsmanship woven from a sustainable mind-set.
The top-10 finalists will present their collections at the 2015 Hong Kong Fashion Week and compete for live-changing prizes: 1st Prize is the honour of designing a capsule collection using up-cycled textiles for leading luxury brand Shanghai Tang; 2nd Prize is designing textile waste-reducing uniforms for staff at the Langham Hotels’ T’ang Court Chinese restaurant; 3rd is a special educational prize to visit and learn from environmentally accountable jeweler John Hardy in Bali.
Prior to this, designers will have to survive elimination rounds and win-over judges that include Orsola de Castro, founder of sustainable fashion label From Somewhere, international fashion designer, Dorian Ho, Shanghai Tang’s chief women’s wear designer, Joseph Li, and chief editor of WSGN China, Yvonne Luk.
